Kevin Hosseini

Kevin Hosseini was born in 1994 and diagnosed with autism in 1998.  He has been receiving services from the UCSB Koegel Clinic since the age of four.   He attends public school in Carpinteria, California.

Kevin became interested in art when he was eight years old.  His therapist through UC Santa Barbara Autism Clinic introduced him to art as a means of socialization.  Kevin quickly progressed from watercolors to acrylics to oil painting.  He painted so much that his parent’s house was filled with paintings!  By the time he was 13 he had sold over 40 paintings and his art was featured in promotions for a number of nonprofits including Autism Society of America Santa Barbara, The Rhythmic Arts Project, Project Angels Bearing Gifts and the Carpinteria Valley Art Council’s First Open Art Studio Tour.

Kevin’s art is on display in a variety of places, including Tri-Counties Regional Center, the UC Santa Barbara Autism Clinic, the Department of Developmental Services in Sacramento, and the nonprofit CHANCE in Santa Barbara.  Kevin is featured in the new Normal Films documentary ARTS (2009) and his work is on the cover of the film.  He and his mentor at the time, J Dan Gibbs, co-created a giant traveling Angel that continues to travel to bring awareness to of those on the spectrum.  Kevin has won a Profant Scholarship for his art competing against adults.   He also has won many student art competitions.

More traveling with Rosa don’t dis the aility.

After a brief hiatus from painting in 2008, Kevin hooked up with mentor painter Steve Richardson.  He has created over 25 paintings in the first 2 months of 2009.  Kevin’s paintings are fauvist in style with bright colors and shapes.  He likes to paint landscapes, city scenes, animals, and deserts (that’s right deserts like cakes, and pies, and yummy things to eat.  He mixes liquen impasto and liquen original with the oils to make different textures in his paintings.  His website is www.kevingallery.com <http://www.kevingallery.com>
