Kevin Hosseini

Kevin Hosseini became interested in art when he was eight years old.  His therapist through the  UCSB Autism Clinic introduced him to art as a means of socialization.  He quickly progressed from watercolors to acrylics, and then to oil painting.  Generally within the fauvist style , using bright colors and shapes, he likes to paint landscapes, city scenes, animals, and deserts. Mixing liquen impasto and liquen original with the oils, he tends to apply heavy texture in his paintings.

By the time he turned 13 he had sold over 40 paintings and his art had been featured promotionally for a number of nonprofits, including Autism Society of America Santa Barbara, The Rhythmic Arts Project, Project Angels Bearing Gifts and the Carpinteria Valley Art Council’s First Open Art Studio Tour.  Collaborating with J Dan Gibbs, his former mentor, they created a giant Angel, which continues to travel and bring awareness to those on the spectrum.

Kevin’s art is on display in a variety of places, including Tri-Counties Regional Center, the UC Santa Barbara Autism Clinic, the Department of Developmental Services in Sacramento, and the nonprofit CHANCE in Santa Barbara.  He is also featured in the recnt Normal Films documentary.

After a brief hiatus from painting in 2008, Kevin hooked up with his current mentor, painter Steve Richardson.  He has created over 25 paintings in the first 2 months of 2009.

Kevin Hosseini was born in 1994 and diagnosed with autism at the age of four.  He has been receiving services from the UCSB Koegel Clinic since that time.   He attends public school in Carpinteria, California.
