Ping Lian Yeak
When Ping Lian Yeak was young, he demonstrated poor motor control, so his home school program offered tracing and coloring to strengthen and develop these skills. With limited communication and social capacity, and the inability to play, this practice gave him something to focus on. He was guided, stroke by stroke to trace, affording him the opportunity to develop. Ultimately these activities became a catalyst for discovering his natural talent as an artist. Art has provided Ping Lian with a form of expression.
In 2002, at the age of 8, Ping Lian seemed to suddenly acquire an obsession with art. The transition from tracing to drawing happened almost instantly. One day after finishing an ice cream cone, he started drawing the pictures that were printed on the ice cream wrapper. He has been drawing ever since, and the quality of his art has quickly advanced.
The unique character of Ping Lian’s draughtsmanship and his confident use of color are mature beyond his years. Within the last few years, his talent has attracted local and international interest. Working with charcoal, acrylic, watercolor, ink, and oil pastels he has developed a signature style that has won over many art enthusiasts and collectors.
Today Ping Lian continues to create magnificent works of art, which have been featured in exhibitions in the United States, UK, Australia, Germany & Malaysia. A book about Ping Lian titled “I Want To Be Artist”- the voice of an autistic boy, is scheduled to be completed in 2009.
